Hi Sally!

Thanks for your email! I'm writing you this on Danny's computer because he isn't here this week. Here's all the family news. Danny is staying with our grandparents this week. He often visits them because he loves Grandma's food and she usually cooks his favourite meal - lasagne! I'm studying a lot at the moment because I am doing exams in this term. Mum is busy - she always works very hard. Dad doesn't live at home this year - he works in New York. He always sends a lot of emails when he's not at home so we know all his news. Write soon. Parents and teachers often say that young people doesn't read enough. Is this true? These days, children and teenagers read lots of books by authors like Meg Rosoff, JK Rowling and Philip Pullman. My teenage neighbour Ben says: "I'm reading a great book at the moment. It is a detective story by Henning Mankel." His friend Sam adds: "My favourite books are by science fiction writers but I never buy books: I always get them from the library." Sam's sister also reads: "My parents usually give me books for my birthday; this year I read lots of short stories." Librarians say:"It's great. These days, more young people use libraries. They always start with Harry Potter books when they are 9 or 10 years old but then they try different books."

My young cousin, Ben, started school last year. There were 15 children in his class. In the first lesson, the teacher read a story. Then the children looked at some pictures and wrote tha alphabet. After the lesson the children went in to the playground. They wore their coats because it was cold. My cousin thought it was home time. He walked out off the playground and looked for his mum. My aunt wasn't there so he sat on the grass and waited for a bus. Luckily he didn't have any monet and the bus driver took him back to school.

Last week I applied for a job at the local bank. Unfortunately I became unempolayed two months ago, and really need to earn some money. I filled in the application form and sent it with mith my curriculum vitae. The bank phoned me to invite me for an interview! I think it'll be a good job: you have to work quite long hours, and you have to wear an uniform, but I don't mind. I'm quite good with people and they aren't asking me for any special qualifications, so I have a good chance!

Looking for your first job isn't easy. You need to decide what you are interested in and what you are good at. Fo example, if you love working outside and you can't stand sit at desk all day , avoid is in an office.

If you manage ask an interview, you should do some preparation before you go. Also, think about what you want get them at the interview.

My brother has just starting a working in a bank near my house. He didn't plan to become a banker, his closen profession was medicine. After University he found an occupation in the local hospital, but he hated working there. It was too stressful. He always used to be good on Mathe at school, so he decided to leave the hospital and start studying again! Now he has to go to the bank every morning and the job is quite boring, but he is happy because his colleagues are nice and he doesn't have to work long hours.

This morning, I checked my homework while I was eating my breakfast. Then I walked to the bus stop. While I was waiting for the bus, I suddenly remembered my homework. It was at home in the kitchen! While I was deciding what to do, the bus arrived. While I was getting on the bus, I getting a text message from my mum: " I found your homework when I was cleaning the kitchen. Wait at the bus stop." It was too lat, I was on the bus. While I was thinking about what to do, I saw my mum's car behind the bus. She was driving in her pyjamas and I was very embarrassed. At the next bus stop, she stopped her car and got on the bus. It was terrible! She walked towards me in her pyjamas so I closed my eyes. When I opened my eyes my mother stood on the bus, in her pyjamas and holding my homework!

I phoned my son but he drove to Manchester in his car. Luckily, a young woman heard me talking on the phone. Her boyfriend came in their car and they took me home."

Anna doesn't know what to do while Jane's at the match. Perhaps she is going to write some postcards. After the match, they will walk along the River Thames so they can see the House of Parliament and the London Eye. After that, they think they will go for a meal. London taxis are quite expensive so they will travel on buses or the Underground. Anna's uncle lives in London. They will stay with him tonight. He has got tickets for a musical and they will see it tomorrow evening.

I met my girlfriend, Alison, in a bar. I was having some drinks with friends:we were celebrating my best friend's 21st birthday. When I saw her, I thought: ‘She's beautiful'

I decided to be courageous and say hello. While I was walking over to her, I fell over a chair. My friends were all laughing, but Alison came to help me up. We passed the rest of the evening chatting and my friend weren't laughing any more! When it was time to leave, I said "I'll carry you home and then I realized I didn't have my car! She just laughed. Since then, we are inseparable, Occasionally we argue, but we always sort it out immediately.

I met Wired sisters in their hotel after their sell-out concert at Riley's in Manchester. In the last ten months, they have become the most talked about new band in Britain. I had lots of questions for them- Have they known each other from a long time? How long have they been playing together? Who writes their songs?

Lead singer Sal and lead guitarist Miranda have been together since secondary school. She has been making music since she was six but she has been writing songs since 2003. Miranda started when  she was a little older- she has been playing the guitar since she was seven.

Sal's boyfriend Stan has been playing the piano since he was just five. He has been going out with Sail for about a year. Their parents haven't met each other yet  because the band has been too busy touring and performing.

Julie, the group's drummer, is silent while I talk to the other members of the band. I ask her "Why haven't you said anything?" She explains "I have rehearsed all day for our next music video and I have just hanged on stage for two hours- I'm exhausted.

I'm exhausted! I've been preparing for this marathon for months. I've never run a marathon before, so I have to prepare very carefully.

What have you been doing?

Well, for the last two months, I've been running for two hours every morning, and I ‘ve been going to the gym every evening.  My legs are really sore!

Wow!And what about the band? You are rehearsing for a round of gigs too, aren't you?

That's right. I've been writing some new songs. I think of the lyrics while I am running.

The concerts start next month, don't they?

Yes! So I'll be able to have a rest for two weeks after the Marathon.

Travelling should be relaxing and fun. However, holidays can be terrible if you have a bad stomach., too much sun or pick up a tropical disease. Before you live home, you must buy insurance and you mustn't check if you need to take any precautions. If you are going to a country wich has malaria, you should take malaria pills before you go there because it is a very dangerous illness. In some countries, you have to carry a certificate from your doctor to show you have had your injections. In hot countries, you don't have to drink lot of water but avoid stomacaches, you don't have to use bottled water. Also, remember the sun is very strong so you shouldn't spend too long in the sun and you must use a sunscreen to protect your skin at all times.
