Critical Essay of Shelley about Poetry

Shelley thinks that poetry is not like reasoning, the poet cannot say “I will compose a poem” even if he’s the greatest one. Something which is invisible and powerful brings to the poet the ideas for his poem but it’s not possible to predict the results his creation. Poetry is “the record of the best and happiest moments of the happiest and best minds”.  Poetry ’s as it were the interpretation of a diviner nature through our own, but this is what the poet should do, he says what the nature asks him to say, that because only poets has the right sensibility and imagination. Poetry gives immortality to the best things and people of the world and for Shelley, poets are the best men because of their great qualities.
