Learning Path » 5A Interacting
In Molly’s Final Monologue Molly Bloom is in her bedroom, particularly she is in bed at night and she starts to think about some different elements and subjects.
She thinks about:
ü China
ü The nuns
ü The alarm clock
ü Flowers
ü Wallpaper in Lombard street
ü Her husband Leopold
ü God
ü Nature
ü Atheists
ü The long kiss between her husband and her
ü Mulvey, Mr. Stanhope, Hester, the old Capitan and the sailors
ü Her youth in Spain and in Gibraltar.
At the end of the monologue Molly pronounces “yes I said yes I will yes”: it is a declaration that emphasizes the sensual atmosphere of the last part of the extract.
Right from the extract the reader can get to know Molly Bloom, who is an adult woman and Leopold’s wife. She is a very modern woman, so she may be considered an emblem of female principles. The intelligent reader can also understand, through her thoughts, that she lives her life in a very sensual way, and particularly her name recalls this aspect of her personality.
