THE MIDDLE AGES. MAIN EVENTS
1- In 1066, William the Conqueror invaded Britain and defeated the English. He was also crowned King of England.
2 - 1199-1216: the reign of King John. He became unpopular for the heavy burden of taxes he imposed, so barons, churchmen and merchants negotiated with him the Magna Carta (1215).
3 -In 1265 there was an assembly summoned at Westminster: it can be considered the archetype of the Parliament.
4 - In 1272 Edward I came to the throne.
5 - The period 1337-1453 signed the Hundred Years' War. At first, england dominated the conflict, but ,at the end, the French, led by Joan of Arc, inflicted a final defeat on the English who lost all possession, except for the city of Calais.
6- In 1455 the War of the Roses started during the reign of Henry VI. The end of the conflict (1485) saw the union of the two rival families through marriage.
7 - In 1381 the Peasants' Revolt broke out in South-Eastern England.
8 - In the 13th century, Wales was conquered by the military campaigns of Edward I.
9 - In Scotland the battle of Bannockburn (1314) marked the end of English pretensions to control the Northern kingdom.
10 - In 1424 the country saw the estabilishment of a new dinasty
