MAIN EVENTS
1066: William the Conqueror defeat the English at Hasting and is crowned King of England(1066-87).
1154: Henry II(1154-89) succeeds William at his death and introduces the common law
1199: King John(1199-1216) assumes the power and imposes heavy taxes.
1215: The "Magna Carta" is written at Runnymede, near London, and it become the basis of all future constitutional governments.
1265: An assembly is summoned at Westminster and it widely represents all English social class.
1272: Edward I comes to the throne and he continues to develop the Parliament.
1307: Edward II (1307-28) does wrong actions and meets a violent death.
1314: Battle of Bannockburn marks the end of English pretensions to control the Northern kingdom.
1337-1485: The Hundred Years' War. England against France and England against England.
1381: Bursts a revolt because of the high taxation during the 1370s.
1415: Henry VI wins at Angicourt.
1424: The country sees the establishment of a new dynasty, the Stuarts, that would eventually gain access to the English throne.
1455: Starts the War of the Roses, a period of bloody civil war between the House of York and the one of Lancaster.
1485: Ends the War of the Roses with the union of the two rival families through marriage and the accession of the Tudor line to the English throne.
