Communication » 2A Interacting
John and Cynthia Brooks from Marden had just won over £ 10 million in the National lottery. They were in the seventh heaven. While they were celebrating the win with the neighbour June Parsons, John commented he wouldn't have bought the winner ticket if he hadn't seen the neighbour buying one. Cynthia replied he wouldn't have bought the ticket if she hadn't asked him to go and buy a newspaper. June Parsons laughed and poured another glass of champagne for them. Then she added the winner ticket would have been bought by her if she had gone to the newsagent's two minutes later. After that the neighbour asked them what they would do with all that money.
Three years later, June Parsons told the newspaper "Marden Today" that Cynthia and John weren't together any more. They hadn't listened to their friends' advice and had rushed into things. They had lost all their friends and spent all their money. The last straw had been the Ferrari; if they hadn't bought it, they would have had enough money to invest. In the end, it was John who was really to blame. If he hadn't put a lot of money on horse races, he wouldn't have sold his lovely house and his jewellery. According to June, at the end of the day, they would have been happier if they hadn't won the lottery. Then, she added she would have done very different things if she had been in the place of them.
