First of all the ballad “Lady Diamond” is an anonymous song and we know that ballads were narrative poems transmitted orally and they were anonymous too.
The layout is organized in thirteen stanzas and each has got four lines; the ballad speaks about a tragic love, that is a typical theme of the ballad, between Lady Diamond and a poor kitchen boy.
Analysing the language of the ballad we can notice that there is no refrains, but there are many incremental repetition (“come to me, my joy) and many rhymes (greet – meet) that make the poem easier to remember.
