KING CON!

Victor Lustig, a very immaginative criminal, was born in Prague in 1890 from a middle aged family and soon learned to speak five languages.

He made his first famous con in 1922 when he bought an old farmhouse without paying a cent and stealing instead the whole amount due for it plus a  § 10.000 cash.

Later on he was in Paris where he convinced a businessman to buy the Eiffel tower from him pretending that it had  to be demolished.

Years after he tried that trick again but had to escape to the USA without money.

There he did many immaginative crimes and lucky escapes, until he was finally arrested in 1935 and sent to Alcatraz prison where he died in 1947.

LISTENING 03/02/2011

Lisa was a young woman who lived in a small town. She was rather obsessed with her appearance, so that she always combed her hair neately and wore pretty clothes.

She earned enough money by her job, so she usually took a vacation on summer. A year, while she was on holiday in the mountains, she discovered she hadn' t brought enough cash money with her. However she had a checkbook with her and so she went to a bank to cash a check. The bank teller asked her if she would gently identify herself. Lisa took a mirror out of her bag, looked at herself into it and said proudly: " Yes it's me!".
