In the Scottish anonymous ballad Lady Diamond there are a lot of devices which help people to memorize the text easier. First of all, there is an high use of rhymes, that are fame-name, scorn-corn, greet-meet,within-pin, joy-boy, heard-said, sore-more, fee-me. The majority of rhyming words take place in the second and fourth line of every quatrain so the rhyme scheme is ABCB,common in a ballad.

Another interesting device easy to find in the text is the alliteration: he-had, daughter-dear,king-could-get, when-weeks-were,word-was, he-has-his, he-her-hand, to-the, me-my-marry-men, till-they, was-washed, where-were, that-took. In addition to this, we can notice the use of assonances, such as both-long,keep-me and for-from and they convey to the listener a sense of vastity.

In the first stanza there is the incremental repetition of the word "king", in the tenth stanza the expression "o come to me" is said three times,in the last stanza "for" is said also three times. These repetitions aim to reinforce the topics of the ballad.

Finally, the memorization is helped by using some consonances, that are it-out, father-dear, cut-heart, put-it, that-might, at-last. Lots of words in the text are linked together, because of alliteration, assonances and consonances so the main topic can be understood better by the listener.
