Textuality » 3A Interacting
Analysing the phonological level an intelligent reader can notice that the anonymous poet had used a lot of language devices to help memorization. There are thirteen stanzas which are quatrain.
In the first quatrain there is the repetition of the word “king” and the alliteration sound of –d (daughter-dear-Diamond).
In the second one you can notice the alliteration sound of –l (loved-long-loved) or of –t (till-the-the).
In the third one there is the alliteration of the sound –w (when-twenty-weeks-were) and the assonance of the vowel sound –e (greet-grew-before).
In the fourth one there is sibilance, because there is a high density of –s (has-his-daughter’s).
In the fifth one there is the alliteration of sound –h (he-her-hand).
In the sixth one you can find the assonance of the sound –e (father-dear-me).
In the seventh one there is the alliteration of the sound –m (me-my-merry-men) and the repetition of the word by and the sound –t (thirty-three).
In the ninth one you can notice the repetition at the beginning of the lines of the sound –t (they-they-that).
In the tenth one there is an incremental repetition (come to me, come to me).
In the eleventh one you can notice the alliteration of the sound –t (taken-the-till).
In the twelfth one the repetition of the sound –w (where-were), or the word “that” and beside there is a lot of words with double letter like “good, all, took, fee, keep, blood”.
In the last one there is the repetition of the verb “gone” and also an incremental repetition of the word “for”.
