Whenever we have to write for academic reasons, you are generally expected to produce argumentative writing, that is a text where an argumentation has to be developed.

In order to satisfy that need you have to be able to collect the relevant information, select them according to request and last but not least to organize them in a consistent, fluent and accurate text.

Competencies to be developed

•1- Reading skills à be able to understand the text and be ready to tell it in     your own words (denotative level)

•2- Single out the most relevant features of style if expected to write a textual analysis.

Features of sound à how sound contributes or adds meaning to the text (phonological level)

Features of semantics à how word choice, semantic fields, key words, use of verbs tenses and the like contribute or add meaning to the text (semantic level)

Features of syntax àhow word order (constructions, deviations, punctuation and the like) contributes or adds meaning to the text. (syntactical level)

Figures of speech à how figurative language (methaphors, similes) contribute or add meaning to the text

Structure à how the different component parts of the literary text make or build meaning (what the function of a specific stanza or sequence is or what it is useful to)
