1. Captain Crawley who only thought about himself in the last few months, is making a list of all the objects he could give to her wife to sell for her own advantage. By this action we can notice Captain Crawley's feelings towards Rebecca are of deep love.
2. Rebecca is only worrying about her look and does not seem to worry about her husband who left to battle. She is very glad Captain Crawley left her all that expensive stuff to sell, because she cares only about herself and the materialistic aspect of life.
3. After all what she did the impression of Rebecca's character is confirmed , even if the narrator calls her "heroine", definetely in an ironic way.
4 Thackeray's characterization is based on describing the characters by their personality and actions although the reader is not free at all to form opinions on them because he is influenced by the narrator's comments. The narrator has a bad opinion towards Rebecca and her behaviour and mentality, that is why he uses an ironic language to make not clear his thought about her.
