First of all, Manzoni gives information about the social class of the nun: she comes from Spain, richer than Italy in that time. Her family has an important role in the society: her father was the first persons in Monza. Besides the narrator provides the reader information about the reputation and the behavior of the nun. The narrator describes her, appealing to sight. She has got a black veil contraposed to the white of his face (the two color indicate the contraposition between purity and damnation). Then the attention of the narrator is focus on her face: her line suggests pain and sufferance.
The wife of Bath's characterization starts explaining the kind of woman: she is a business woman. Then the narrator gives us some information about the woman's job: she is a cloth maker and she is the better of alls. Besides Geoffrey Chaucer describes the woman in the way she dresses. She has a head kerchiefs of the finest weave, her stocking are scarlet red and the shoes are pliable and new. Chaucer focuses the attention on the physical appearances: her face is bold, handsome and florid too and she has enormous hips. The narrator tells about the private life: we can understand she isn't faithful, because she marries five times, not counting other loves of youth. She is a business woman and so she can wander in all the world. She is called "the wife of Bath" because she has a lot of sexual relationship with someone who isn't one's usual partner.
