A RESPECTABLE WOMAN
Mrs. Baroda was a bit disappointed to learn that her husband's friend Gouvernail was planning to spend one or two weeks at their plantation, since she had planned a period of conversation with her husband Gaston. Gaston had told her about Gouvernail and she didn't like the mental image, but when she met his husband's friend she found she liked him.
She couldn't discern why she liked him: he was always courteous and quiet in response to het eagerness to welcome him and her husband's hospitality, but she found him however lovable.
Soon she became to accompany him during his walks and she attempted to overcome his reticence.
But one day she remained piqued by that, and she soon got bored with him. So he told to her husband she didn't stand him, but he replied he was going to stay just for a week and she should have been hospital and friendly with him.
One night she was sitting on the beach when Gouvernail sat near her and gave her a scarf behalf her husband. He started talking about the night bus she suddenly stopped paying attention to his words. She was attracted by his presence. She wanted to go next to him and touch him. But instead of doing that she stood up and left him alone.
She decided to not speak about this fact with her husband and to face that feeling by herself, so the next day she took a train and she didn't return at home until Gouvernail's depart.
After she had returned at home, she told her husband she had overcame her dislike for his friend and suggested to welcome Gouvernail the next summer. She addes she would be very nice with him.
