This is an extract from "Robinson Crusoe" written by Daniel Defoe. Here the reader can find the description of Friday, a person who is living on the island with Crusoe. Crusoe describes him, in order to make the reader understand that Friday is different from the other people who are living in the island. He has something special. Crusoe describes him with very interesting features to better understand the personality of Friday. Crusoe makes a comparison between Friday and Europeans because he says that he is very similar to them. The author makes the reader understand that there is a positive approach between Friday and Crusoe. Crusoe accepts him and teaches him the most important thing to survive on the island, and Friday makes all that Crusoe tells him. The language is quite simple, it helps to understand Friday's physical features and Crusoe's attitude to him. Throughout the words of the text the reader can understand that even though Crusoe welcomes him, he uses his as a servant. Crusoe feels like a lord and a lawgiver. He needs a servant and he likes Friday because he knows how to serve him.
