Text Analysis

Guidelines for textual analysis:

  1. Consider the title(anticipations, conjectures and predictions)about the possible content of the text;
  2. Consider lay-out  the form the text appears on the page(it is diefferent from other kinds of texts.

Poetry it is arranged in different ways

it says a lot without writing much

      it hasn't a definite meaning

There are different kinds of readers:

Empirical readers

Ideal readers (kind of reader who is able to understand all)

Intelligent readers (who reads "between lines")

Naive readers who reads in a mechanic way

Why should something that isn't          A WORD IS DEAD

animate be dead?                                    A word is dead

                                                                      When it is said

                                                                          Some say

                                                                               I say

                                                                It just begins to live

                                                                            That day

It is organized in two stanzas because in the first there's a opinion of "some" people and in the second there's the poetess own opinion.

Literature is the way language is organized into possible meanings

What is a classical?

What makes a classical is the peculiar use of language that allows whatever reader of whatever time in whatever space find always new meanings in the same works.

A classic always generates itself.

The language used in literature is rather removed from other days language.

The role of the reader is an active, dynamic one, in that it contributes to make a meaning of the text.

The reader can see YES!    I think NO!

In literature there is no final arbiter there's no a precise meaning because it changes as how much are the readers.

The reader has to support his meaning looking at the text.
