Stopping by woods on a snowy evening (Robert Frost)

The title of the poem is Stopping by woods on a snowy evening and it was written by Robert Frost.

It conveys a sense of peace and quietness and I think the poem may be about somebody who admires a beautiful winter landscape.

The poem consists of four stanzas. Each stanza has got four lines.

The speaking voicemay be the poet. I can understand it because there is the repetition of the subject “I”  in the first and last stanza. But in the second and in the third one, the poet speaks about supposed emotions of his little horse. I think he uses this device to underline the loneliness and quietness of this place. It is so peaceful that he can imagine what his horse feels, too.

This poem is also characterised by sound patterns and rhymes which convey a soft rhythm to the reader.

For example the use of alliteration ( whose-woods; his-house), assonances ( sweep-deep-keep-sleep) and vowel ( specially w and y ).

I like this poem very very much. In my opinion the way the reader speaks about rationality and irrationality. He use woods to represent irrationality ( what he wants to reach), snow for purity and the little horse which means rationality (allegories).

Last but not least is the way the poet give to the woods a positive connotation. It is strange because woods have usually got a negative connotation. It seems to me he wants to put on the evidence that sometimes we should be  less rational and live our emotions.
