1 st : lines 1-8

 

Wordsworth speaks about the subject matter of his poems. He thinks poetry should be about incidents and situations from common life. The language used should be simple.

The poet wants to find out the primary laws of humans' nature in these ordinary events.

 

2 nd: lines 8-17

 

The poet explains why humble and rustic life was generally chosen.

This is because, in that condition, passion can grow better, are stronger and simpler so the feelings can be better understood because of their simplicity and their strong relation with nature.

 

3 rd : lines 17-28 

 

Wordsworth talks about the language which should be used in poetry. It should be the language used by the country men because they use simple and unelaborated expressions which can convey feelings in a better way.

The poet criticizes the language influenced by the social vanity.

 

4 th : lines 29- 37

 

Wordsworth answers to some questions about the poet's rule.

He exposes all the poet's qualities which are sensibility, enthusiasm, tenderness, knowledge of human nature, comprehensiveness; he says the poet adresses himself to the other men.

 

5 th : lines 37- 44

 

The poet can imagine absent things in a more powerful way, he can also evoke passions in himself which he is able to express in poetry.

 

6 th : 45-53

 

Wordsworth says the creative act of the poet starts from an emotion recollected in tranquillity and solitude; this process is the record of a memory from which begins the composition.

During the description of these passions the poet's mind is in a state of enjoyment.
