Subject matter of the poetry
Poetry should deal with incidents and situations from common and rural life. The poet should present them truly and not ostentatiously, and make them interesting to the mind of the reader in an unusual aspect by tracing in them the primary laws of nature.
The language of the poetry
Poetry should use familiar language, which is really used by men who live a humble and rustic life. This type of language should also throw over common people the use of their imagination.
The poet's identity
The poet is a man speaking to other men who has more lively sensibility, more enthusiasm and tenderness, a greater knowledge of human nature and a more comprehensive soul. He is a man who delights in contemplate volitions and passions and he is pleased of his own.
The creative act of the poet
The creative process starts from an emotion which is recollected in tranquility. The emotion is contemplated till the tranquility disappears and a feeling is gradually produced and actually exists in the mind. Poetry is a spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings.
