AT THE GROCER’S
Mrs. Ford was at the grocer’s. She looked at the shopping list and said she needed butter, cheese and a pack of biscuits. The grocer asked her if she needed something else. She answered she needed sugar, flour and a pack of tea. The grocer put them on the counter and asked her if it was all. Mrs. Ford said she also needed some tomato soup. The grocer answered he hasn’t got any tomato soup. Mrs. Ford asked what the tins on the shelf contained and he answered they contained tomatoes. He also asked her if she wanted to buy any tomato tin and she said no. The grocer asked if it was all and Mrs. Ford said yes. She asked him to send all the things to her house. She said she also needed pack of eggs, but she added she would carry it by herself. The grocer said he could send the eggs too, but Mrs. Ford said she wouldn’t have the eggs sent because his new delivery-boy is very careless: the last time he has dropped her eggs in front of her door.
THE AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHER
I went to the photographer’s and I handed him my roll. I said I wanted to have the film developed and printed and he answered it would be ready for the following Tuesday. I said I hoped they would be successful and I went out. The following Tuesday I returned and I asked for my photographs. Mr. Dodd gave me the envelope and I opened it eagerly. I saw there were only 8 photographs and I said I ought to have had 36 photos. He said the other photos were all spoiled because my camera lets in light. I looked at the 8 photos sadly: two of them were almost black and three of them were almost white. In a photo, I had cut my sister’s legs and in another one a tree was growing out of my brother’s head. I said I would never became a photographer.
