For his 18^th birthday Roddie Lewis'a parents gave him an unusual birthday present: a course in First Aid. Roddie is interested in medicine and hopes to become a doctor. He has been studying science and mathematics at school for several years, but hadn't studied any pratical medical subjects. Roddie is now the youngest person in our county to work with the medical volunteers who assist ambulance personnel. Hehas been working for 4 months. "While assisting the experts, I had helped to observe and learn," says Roddie. " before I started this job, I hadn't seen a heart attack or an injury except in books and films and I hasn't been seen a sick person. Now I feel confident I can assist people in emergencies". I didn't know whether she had been gone in to see the film without me, or whether she was late too. After a few minutes I started wondering whether I had been making a mistake about the time. Just then, she waved at me from across the street. It turned out that she had waited in a cafè, and she had wondered what had been happening to me. It seems that I had been misunderstand our arrangements after all. she had sit in the cafè since 6.30, and had expected me to join her for a snack before the film.
