After watching the film you can find some differences from the novel. The movie is shorter and more direct than the novel: it shows the scenes in sequence without stopping on the novel descriptions. But you can find also a similarity: the movie follows rigidly the content of the novel. Therefore while the person who watches the film can immediatly understand the story and the relationships between the characters, the person who reads the book can find more difficulties in following all the events.

The two love stories develope at the same time: a comparison between them is therefore possible and invited. The love story of the poets runs parallel to the love story of the researcheres.

The past is important because the story starts right in that time and it is relevant to understand the present because through the love story of the poets you can better grasp the present relationship between the researchers.

The characterization is built up through actions, movements, expressions and dialogues.

Characters face life with tenacity and ambition bacause they are very busy to reach their objectives. On the other side they are totally caught by a passion that they cannot manage.

We think that the performance of actors is brilliant because they are able to communicate emotions and feelings rendering the novel atmosphere with detailed and coherent effects.

The message the film director wants to convey is the incessant research to discover the truth and the relationshipbetween the Victorian poets  are characterized by passion. On the other side the novel's message is more connected to the  consciousness of the presence of more truths. In the film the debate on truth is based on the incessant research of real facts and on the will to discover the end of events.

The idea of Postmodernity comes to surface through the fragmentation in the narration of the events and through the concept that no one can know the truth (you can find it in Ash's story - he meets her daughter ).

We think that the film reflects the content of the novel and provides all the information for a full  understanding of the story.
