The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner part IV
This part of The rime of the Ancient Mariner probably represents the most significant part of the story told by the Ancient Mariner. It describes the turning point of the tale, when the mariner shows his regret for his bad actions and is forgiven.
The Wedding-Guest is scared because he thinks that the Mariner is a ghost, but the Mariner himself assures him that he is a living creature.
The Ancient Mariner gives a very detailed description of the dreadful things that he saw while he was alone on the ship, surrounded by his dead shipmates and by a lot of strange water snakes.
He tells that he hoped to die just like his shipmates because that situation caused a lot of sadness and he couldn’t stand it anymore.
The Ancient Mariner stares at the moon and the stars in the sky and starts to appreciate the real beauty of Nature and particularly of all of living creatures, even the frightening water snakes which are describe in all their beautiful color.
The moment when he acknowledges the beauty of Nature is the moment when the spell is broken and the Albatross who he was carrying around his neck falls down and frees him.
