The fourth part of the ballad starts with the gallant telling the mariner about the fear the old man provokes in him, anyway the sailor tries to comfort the young man.
The mariner begins to tell another part of his story. The sailor's report speaks about how he wasn't "blessed" with the gift of death, he told him of how all his crew had died and how he wanted to join them.
The mariners' damnation leave him in complete solitude, anyway at the end he finds out that he could pray and his terrible sin went away from him.
