The Wedding- Guest is afraid of the ancient Mariner since he is not sure if the Mariner is a real man or a spirit.

The ancient Mariner tries to reassure him that he is never dead, being the only survivor among his companions.

The Mariner continues telling the story.

He says that he sailed alone for seven days and seven nights since all the other mariners were dead and he was survived.

He describes the feeling of agony and the sense of loss which had caught him while he was looking at the corpse laying around him on the deck.

He tried to pray but he heard a whisper which prevented him to do that.

The night landscape was so impressing that he could see it also if he closed his eyes.

He was sure he could see a course in his companions' eyes.

He looked at the sea and he saw some tracks of smimming water-snakes.

Immediately he was fashinated by them and he blessed them unaware.

Now he could pray and the Albatross fell from his neck: he was free from his guilt.
