In the last few lines, the old mariner says farewell to the wedding guest and it says to him a teaching, which contains the meaning of the whole ballad: a good man is a man who loves Nature, because God created not only men but also all the other animals who live on earth and he loves all of his creatures.
After that the mariner disappears. The wedding guest, after hearing that story, is stunned and the day after that he woke up as a wiser and sadder man.
