In November 2012 Obama held a speech for all the American voters. This is a typical oral argumentation with simple sentences, repetition of words and concepts.
You can divide this speech in five paragraphs. The first one is the introduction and its aim is to thank all the people who helped him during his election campaign and who voted him. He announced to accept his charge.
Then the second paragraph is the first one of the body and it is made to " wake up" all the listeners remembering them their typical values and their sense of belonging. It starts with three simple sentences, that express the same concept with different words. There is also the repetition of "choice", that is due to the oral form. At the beginning of the sentence he used the pronouns "ours", that means he is part of the people, he wants to create an united America and involve everyone. First he starts talking about the values that joins all American people. We understand he wants to refer to all the social classes thanks to "from the corner office to the factory floor". He brings personal examples talking about his grandparents: this is a way to highlight the American history and the important and relevant position of America in the history.
In the following part Obama worries the audience about the actual situation. He say them that they are living a period of crisis but it will be over if they only want to. He talks about the important values of America and he assimilates them to a "basic bargain" that is "slipping away". America is under crisis and that's why he ran for president. He doesn't talk about the problems but he talks about the effects these problems had upon the people. He uses a concrete language ("to put gas in the car or food on the table") to be closer to the people, to be better understood catching their attention.
He opens a parenthesis about his rival's program accusing him no to do the best things for the USA. He also calls him "friend", an ironic way. By this statement, he tries to catch the audience approvement. He uses the dialogue to make the idea he is talking to someone.
He nominates the China, an American enemy, to make more real his speech. He talks about "moving forward" and not "rolling back". He wants to be a solution in order to progress and move on the America.
Obama talks about his program comparing it with an hard path. But it relies on the values he had already remembered to the audience.
Finally he stars showing his program lines: first he talks about jobs that are moving overseas and that's he's going to bring back, (he rises a sense of proudest in people's minds) and with his words gives the impression that everything is possible. He always gives concrete examples for his statements.
After that he talks about energy that is a very important point. Firstly he remember that he had done great things to make the USA free from foreign oil taxes, but then he moves talking about natural and bio energy (to meet the tastes of all the people present there).
In conclusion, I think that Obama made a great work resorting to the values and the common sense of belonging and honor of American people.
