Analysis of "A painful case"

Right from the title is possible to understand the topic; it already anticipates the events that will occur. The same title is the title of a short article on the death of a woman, who later turns out to be the woman he fell in love with him.

The chapter can be divided into three parts: his life before the meeting with Emily Sinico; the period in which met the woman and the period after leaving her.

Mr James Duffy doesn't like the city life and does not like Dublin, following a monotonous life away from the mess. Is a man who loves classical music (Mozart), indeed every time he went to hear some concert, a man with no friends and his life is a story without adventures. Even if Emily Sinico is married, she liv bees a monotonous life without her husband cared for her: precisely because of his indifference was able to establish a relationship with mr Duffy. But after mr Duffy lives her away she fell into depression starting to drink and becoming an alcoholic: after a few years of their separation she died hit by the train: a painful death. After the separation Mr. Duffy continued his monotonous life without worrying about his state of isolation: only at the end begins to reflect on his condition and what is bad rejection of all to feel free and alone.

In the novel there are very detailed descriptions, with a very rich language of search words. Mainly the places are very detailed, for example, the house of Mr. Duffy.

Joyce wants to communicate the message about the dangers of loneliness causes and consequences, often burdensome for people.
