ANALYSIS OF AN EXTRA FROM “EVELINE”
<!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]-->
This extra belongs to the central part of the short story Eveline in Joyce’s “Dubliners”
It deals with Frank, a character that represent the exact opposite to Eveline, the protagonist.
If Eveline never know what to do and how Frank is self-assured, active and open.
The idea the reader gains of the character is totally filtered by Eveline’s taught. It is to say that Frank comes to life truth Eveline’s interior monologue and his personality is really simple and clear without any possible miss understanding. This happened before the language is more than ordinary: it is Eveline’s language. The one of the character that does not have any point of view whatsoever the language is plane, matter of fact and essentialy consist of Frank’s actions, interest style of dressing. All that Eveline let’s the reader know is the record of a memory and as a result Frank turn out like sort of nostalgic figure: someone you missrather then a young guy and adolescent is going without it. Last but not list the excerpt ends with Eveline’s father finding out about the two again, as if repeating and old stereotype it is not Eveline herself to decide about her life, but somebody else. What sems to attract Eveline is truly very far away: Frank may project her in Buenos Ayres. Life is more tollerable because it turns out somethin similar to a dream: going to the theatre, do unusual things.
