The last paragraph of “The Dead” concerns the feelings and reflection of the main character, Gabriel. All these thoughts come from the examination of details of his wife’s body: the tangled hair, the half-open mouth… . Firstly he compares the boy who had died for her and himself, considering that he had never understood his wife and they had never lived as two beloved. He thought about her youth watching Greta’s cloths, the snow outside the window, exc… . From those objects he started a reflection about his emotions reviewing the evening passed. The text is organized using no time or plot order but using the technique of the stream of consciousness: every detail, every thoughts recall in the main of the character a different reflection connected to the first one that will originate another topic to meditate on. After all this process the character’s mind comes back to the starting point enriched and arrived to a conclusion.
