Gabriel have a mistake from the start of the party. At the beginning he meets Lily and asks her if she had finish school and if she had a boyfriend.Lily doesn't feel at is (she has got problems with men?).When gabriel arrived outside it is snowing.In Ireland the condition between man and women is very different how we can see also in that short story.Gabriel is a very trendy man but his wife doesn't obbey him.The intelligent reader can immaginate that Gabriel wife be different from the conventional wife.In the party there is a very mithe atmosphere  created by music.Gabriel is an ambiguity character.Greta creates problem right from the start:she doesn't conform.Gabriel would like to travel around the Ireland  while miss Ivory idea of ireland is a nationalist idea.Religion is one of the themes in this short story how we can see after the dance.People begin the dinner this dinner remind to the last suppa (religious event).Man is purify by the carestias.The priest is Gabriel in the annual dinner that we can compare to Jesus Christ.Gabriel is not happy by the speach he prepared.
