Classtest II - Term II
Option A.
In her novels, Virginia Woolf used the narrative technique called "stream of consciousness" and she used also flashback and flash wards together with the device of the moment of being. Through such narrative techniques, the reader can known what passes into the minds and hearts of her characters (as expressed in the quotation). As a matter of fact Virginia Woolf's stream of consciousness consists of the expression of thoughts and feelings exactly as they pass through characters' minds.
With her style Virginia Woolf adopted a level of psychological realism, which is showed by internal processes, memories, spontaneous thoughts (important thoughts treated in the same way of trivial thoughts).
The reader can therefore note how Virginia Woolf was able to show realism in her novels also thanks to the use of the "moment of being". It is often in contrast with the moment of non-being, which consists of a moment where a person live something unconsciously while the "moment of being" is a moment in which a person makes an experience with awarness.
