A crisis of capitalism

The article is in "The Guardian" and it has got a title "A crisis of capitalism" and a subtitle "the financial problems plaguing Europe and Italy are not home-grown" which makes the reader reflect about the financial problems of Europe.

The article consist of 11 paragraphs, each having a particular function.

It starts with the topic sentence "History repeats itself, Marx wrote, first as tragedy, then as farce", which underlines the double face nature of history. It resorts to a Marx's quotation who considers history first as a tragedy and then as a farce. Thanks to this sentence, the intelligent reader realizes that also capitalism has a double face nature: on one side it provides a lot of opportunities, but on the other side it brings a lot of financial and economic problems. Making a connection with capitalism which developed during the Industrial Revolution, on one side there was the massive increase of the wealth of the merchant class, on the other side there were the terrible conditions of labourers.

Then the paragraph describes the ridiculous situation of Italy in 2011: Bellofiore speaks about Italy comparing it to "a country where the most effective opposition to government are comedians, and where the prime minister himself is a joke." Moreover he emphasizes the concept saying that "this has distorted most analysis of the country's economical and political situation, as if Italy's problem is just its pm, distracted by sex and trials". Then the article goes on describing the vision about Italy in the other countries. Anyway nobody thinks Italy a positive and equilibrate country on which European countries could base their politics.

Moreover Bellofiore adds that the most important problems are: the unwillingness to refinance first Greece, than Ireland and Portugal, the fact that the crisis can be overcome only by dealing at once with the European crisis in order to stop the domino effect, and that this crisis is not just a financial crisis, but a capitalist crisis. Than he concludes the article saying that what's really missing in Europe is internationalism, a mean which maybe could help financial and economic problems.
