TWEET AND ROLAND BARTHES

Tweet di un discorso amoroso

Analysis of Elisabetta Stefanelli’s review

The text is a review about Roberto Cotroneo’s Tweet di un discorso amoroso.

The text begins with a question, probably posed in order to give a reading key to the reader. In the very first lines the reader came across with the writer’s idea. Indeed, with an high density of adjectives, she defines it as a very interesting book in which the idea of love is a very particular one. Indeed, it is defined as a “donna silente”, in that a woman that never speak and so you can understand what she thinks. The review proceeds through a comparison between Roberto Cotroneo’s book and Roland Barthes’ “ Frammenti di un discorso amoroso”. What’s more, reading the review you can understand that the idea of love conveyed by Roland Barthes is not possible now. Indeed, with an intelligent use of quotations, the writer makes clear the difference between the today’s love and the concept of love in Roland Barthes’ book. What’s more, reading the text it seems as if the way of convey somebody’s feelings today is only through social networks, where the past and the present are melt in one time called the interior time. Finally, the writer’s opinion about Cotroneo’s “Tweet di un discorso amoroso” is also clear in the conclusion. Indeed while books are something private that allow a private relationship with the feelings contained in the text, while social networks share your intimate feeling with everybody, and so everybody can know what you feel.

Analysis of Manila Benedetto’s review

The text is a review about Roberto Cotroneo’s Tweet di un discorso amoroso.

It begins with a quotation Manila Benedetto considers a very important one. It goes on taking into consideration the structure of the book. According to Benedetto’s opinion it is like a stream of consciousness, where the quotations of different “tweets” taken from social networks cover a lot of pages of Coltroneo’s book.

It is a book that helps to reflect on the today’s concept of love in relationship with the concept of literature.

Manila Benedetto seems criticize Coltroneo’s book. Indeed, just considering the question concluding the review , it seems as if she considers social networks as a form of literature, not so different from “Tweet di un discorso amoroso”.

Comparative analysis

After my personal reading of this docs, I understood “Tweet di un discorso amoroso” deals with the contemporary topic of love. Indeed a tweet and a status in a social network are very similar from the traditional concept of love conveyed for example in a dramatic monologue. As a matter of fact, they are an example of human beings’ mental process of conveying intimate feelings. Both proceed through the technique of the stream of consciousness. Both are made by a person that is not the “poet” since the dramatic monologue as a status or a tweet convey personal feelings in a very spontaneous way.
