WRITE A LETTER:



FORMAL LETTER: it should be:

  • in the correct format
  • short and to the point → concise and relevant
  • free of any grammatical or spelling mistakes
  • avoid everyday, colloquial language
  • avoid contractions
  • avoid emotive, subjective language 
  • avoid vague words


INFORMAL LETTER:

- similar to the spoken language



STRUCTURE:


Address and date:

  • The addess of the sender is written in the right hand corner
  • The address and the name of the reciving is written in the left, after the sender’s one. After that leave a line and write the date



Salutation:

  • dear…,
    • Sirs, Madam → formal
    • Mrs, Mr, Ms.. → formal
    • Name or nickname→ informal


Content: the text should be divided into paragraph:

  • Introduction: it gives an idea about what you are writing to them with a short summary of the main topic of your letter.
  • Body: the message you want to give, it conteins any details you may want to convey
  • Conclusion: it sums up  the content of the letter.


Ending a letter 

  • Informal letters:
  • love
  • Yours
  • Best wishes
  • Missing you lots
  • Sign it


  • Formal letters:
  • Yours respectfully 
  • Your acknowledgement will oblige 
  • Awaiting a speed reply 
  • Your sincerely 
  • We are, yours truly
  • Sign you name directly below these and then print the signature below them.
