Conceptual Map: Macbeth's Letter
The supernatural nature of the three witches
• They know more than the mortals => "They have more in them than mortal knowledge"
• Vanished in the air after telling Macbeth their prophecy=> "..made themselves air into which they vanished."
• The fulfilment of the first "weird sisters' " prediction => "..all-hailed me 'Thane of Cawdor;' by which title, before, these weird sisters saluted me, and referred me to the coming on of time."
Lady Macbeth's importance to Macbeth
• She is a strong figure next to her husband and he relies on her, values her opinion and needs her to lead him. You can understand that from the fact that he writes her a letter right away. => my dearest partner of greatness
• He wants to share his joy with her => " thou mightst not lose the dues of rejoicing"
• As soon as she reads the letter she thinks of Macbeth's nature "..yet do I fear thy nature; It is too full o' the milk of human kindness." and how he should behave to become king "Thus thou must do, if thou have it; and that which rather thou dost fear to do than wishest should be undone."
• She is going to lead him through this => "Hie thee hither, that I may pour my spirits in thine ear"
