Macbeth’s letter

With this letter Shakespeare introduces in his play lady Macbeth. He tells his wife that he has just become Thane of Coward.

From this letter the reader can understand that Macbeth wants to explain to his wife all happened to him. He tells her that he met three witches and that the first prophecy that they told him were true. He told her that he would become the king of Scotland.

While he is saying this to lady Macbeth he totally forgot that witches are not only positive aspects, in fact he is “rapt in wonder”, he “burned in desire”.

The text is divided into two parts: the letter and what the lady thinks about her husband.
