Summary "A crisis of Capitalism"
In the article "A crisis of capitalism", taken from the "the Guardian", we are
given information about the Italian crisis. The journalist Riccardo Bellofiore
is providing a key to read and understand the situation. The writer suggests
that to understand better the Italian situation we have to analyze it in a
larger context: the Europe.
He analyses the limits of Eurozone, and so we have some points that must be
considered: the single currency, the
central bank, a no significant European public budget and a different speed of
economy in each State.
The economist says the Italian crisis is not home grown but German neo- mercantilism induced the stagnation
in Europe.
At the end of the article the economist highlights that this is not just a
financial crisis, but a capitalist crisis and , from his point of view, a New
Deal should be part of a wider programme of the European left, who should
support a socialization of investment, the intervention of the State as direct
provider of employment, banks as public utilities and capital controls.
Only European struggles can resist austerity and deliver decent reform.
