The tragedy is set in ancient Scotland, where there are rebellions leaded by the Thane of Cawdor , to take King Duncan's throne. The King of Scotland has two son : Malcom , the older son that is fighting to protect his father and Donalbian the younger son who is safe in the palace at Forres with the King. Later Malcom returnes to the castle victorious from the battlefiled with a soldier who safe his life, and they tell to the King that the true hero of the battle was Macbeth, the Thane of Glamis and King's cousin. The thane of Ross , a Scottish lord informs that they had captured the Thane of Cawdor so the King orders to execute him immediately and to find Macbeth to tell him that he is the new Thane of Cawdor.
Macbeth is riding across the open fields with his friend Banquo, suddenly their horses stopped, and through the fog the men see three strange shapes: three witches. They makes a prediction about Macbeth: they say that he would be Thane of Cawdor and King of Scotland; Banquo asks the witches to make a prediction about him too : they say he wouldn't be king but his children would be king. After that they disappear into the fog. Macbeth wants to know more but the witches have already disappeared. Suddenly Lord Ross catchs up with them and informs Macbeth that he was the new thane of Cawdor, Macbeth doesn't believe it so he says that the thane of Cawdor is still alive but Lord Ross answered the traitor was captured. So Macbeth realizes that the first prediction has come true but he asked to himself if the witches are right and also if the second prediction would have come true. Back in the palace at Forres, the King of Scotland thanks all the thanes for their loyalty to Scotland and names his heir: Malcolm would be the next King of Scotland; then the King says to Macbeth that he would stay at Macbeth's castle that night to talk more. So Macbeth writes a letter to inform his wife of the King's arrival at their castle and he also describes the strange meeting with three woman and their prediction.

She manage to convince him and she pushes him to kill the King that night: when the King would be ready to go to bed , Lady Macbeth would go and talk to the two servants who sleep in the room next to his and she would give them lots of wine to make them fall asleep so Macbeth could get into Duncan's room and kill him using servant's daggers to make people think they killed him. When the body of Duncan is discovered in the morning, Macbeth quickly kills the two servants and the King's sons leave the country, afraid for own lives: Malcom goes to England and Donalbain goes to Ireland.
Then Macbeth trusting in the predictions ordered two men to kill Banquo and his son Fleance, afraid that he would take his throne, the two men succeed in kill Banquo but Fleance manage to ran away from the murderes. The night of Banquo's murder, his ghost appears to Macbeth at the banquet in his castle, going him crazy, scaring his guests and his wife. So Lady Macbeth decides that the banquet has to end. To calm down himself, Macbeth goes to the three witches and they tell to him new predictions: Macbeth should be afraid of Mucduff, he couldn't be killed by any man born of woman and he would be safe until Birnam Wood comes to Dunsinane Hill. He returns to home reassured and finds out that Macduff had escaped to England to join Malcom so Macbeth orders the murder of Mucduff's family.
Malcom and Mucduff creates an army to take it to Scotland to defeat Macbeth, the worst king of the history of Scotland , a tyrant not a king. While Macbeth awaits his enemies, Lady Macbeth feeling guilty about every crime and feeling unable to wash the blood from her hands , commits suicide.
