Macbeth

Macbeth is a tragedy by William Shakespeare settled in Scotland in the Middle Ages.

Macbeth is a Scottish thane, the hero of the battle he has fought against the thane of Cawdor. The thane of Cawdor rebelled against the king of Scotland, Duncan, Macbeth's cousin.  While Macbeth is going back to his king he encountered three witches who made each him and his friend Banquo three prophecies. They told Macbeth that he would become thane of Cawdor and king of Scotland, then they vanished. Immediately after the encounter, Macbeth met Ross, a Scottish thane, who told him that the king of Cawdor had been executed and he was the new thane of Cawdor. The second of the three prophecies became true and Macbeth started thinking that he would really become king of Scotland. Once he arrived at the king's castle, the king had a speech praising Macbeth and naming his son Malcolm as heir. Afterwards the king decided to spend that night at Macbeth's castle. After Lady Macbeth had been informed about the three prophecies and the upcoming visit of the king, she started thinking how to kill the king. She plotted the murder for Macbeth and on that night he killed the king. When the body of the king was found dead the day after, his sons, Malcolm and Donalbain, feared for their life and fled to England and Ireland. Macbeth was crowded king of Scotland soon but he was scared of Banquo and his son Fleance because the prophecies of the witches told Banquo that his sons would be kings. So Macbeth decided to kill Banquo and Fleance but he only succeeded in killing Banquo while Fleance managed to run away. Macbeth's and Lady Macbeth's lives were nagged by visions and ghosts. In England Malcolm was trying to rally an army to defeat Macbeth, supported by Macduff, a Scottish thane, since both of them believed that Macbeth had killed king Duncan and was a tyrant. In Scotland Macbeth consulted the three witches who made other three prophecies. But Macbeth realized that the prophecies were deceiving when Malcolm's army fought Macbeth's one and defeated it. Macbeth was killed in the battle by Macduff and Malcolm became king of Scotland.
