Macbeth is a play set in Scotland in the eleventh century.

The story begins with the victory of the Scottish King’s army against the rebels led by the Thane of Cawdor. Lord Macbeth, a brave Thane who has taken part in the battle, together with his fellow Banquo, meets three weird women who make him two prophecies: he will become thane of Cawdor and the new king of Scotland.
Macbeth soon finds out that the first prediction was right: the king’s messengers tell him that the has been named thane of Cawdor as a reward for his victory.
He reports everything to his wife and she immediately starts making plans to help the second prophecy come true, too. Their first step is killing the current king (and his serves), charging the serves with the murder.

As the king’s two sons run away from Scotland, Lord Macbeth is crowned King of Scotland.
After that, he plans to have Banquo and his son killed, because Banquo was the only one who knew about the prophecies and the witches and his son was destined to become king right after Macbeth himself.
The killers succeed in killing Banquo, but his son manages to escape. Among the Thanes Macduff decides to go to England and find the real hire to the throne.

Macbeth goes to talk to the witches again. They call forth three ghosts, who make him three predictions: he has to be afraid of Macduff; no man born from woman can harm him; he will only be defeated when the Birnam Wood will move to his castle to fight him.
After that, Macbeth accuses Macduff of being a traitor and sends soldiers to his castle to murder his wife, children and servants.
Meanwhile, Lady Macbeth is devoured by the sense of guilt. She has terrible nightmares every night, dreaming about the king’s murder.

As soon as Macduff finds out of Macbeth’s actions, he joins the previous king’s son and prepares an army to fight against Macbeth, the tyrant.
They surround Macbeth’s castle, hiding themselves in the wood. Lady Macbeth kills herself and Lord Macbeth runs in the middle of the battlefield, where he is killed by Macduff. Since Macduff was not born, but cut from his mother’s dead body, all the three prophecies has become true.

In the end, the previous king’s son, Malcolm, becomes the new King of Scotland.
