After the battle, Macbeth and Banquo found three witches, who predict that Macbeth will
be thane of Cawdor and king of Scotland, and Banquo's son will be king as well.
At first they didn't believed in them, but when king Duncan gave Macbeth the
title of thane of Cawdor, as reward for the victory, he started to believe in
it. He immediately wrote to his wife about the new title, the prophecy and that
king Duncan was going to sleep at their castle for the night. At the castle
lady Macbeth convinced her husband to make the prophecy true by killing the
king with one of his servant's dagger. After the discovering of the body the
two sons of Duncan, Malcolm and Donalbain, felt in danger for their lives and
decided to fled, but as result they were accused of being the assassins.
Macbeth became king of Scotland, but at the banquet he saw the ghost of Duncan
and is terrorized by it. At the same time, the assassins he sent to kill Banquo
and his son managed to kill Banquo, but they couldn't kill Fleance, the son. Macbeth
returned to the witches to know more about his future, discovering that he will
not lose until the forest will move and that no man of woman born can harm him.
Reassured by the prophecy, he sent his army to Macduff's castle, to slaughter
everyone, because Macduff wasn't at the coronation ceremony and, in Macbeth's
mind, was a proof of his betrayal. Macduff fled to England, to join Malcolm to
plan an assault to kill Macbeth and put Malcolm, the heir, on the throne. They
hid their army in the forest, cut down the trees and move them to Macbeth's
castle. The queen couldn't bear the sense of guilt and die. Macbeth understands
that for him is over, but decided to fight until the death. Fighting Macduff,
who seek vengeance for his family, discovered that Macduff was cut off his
mother's dead body and because of that was not born of a woman. Macbeth died
and Malcolm became the legitimate king of Scotland
