The protagonist of the tragedy is Macbeth. He wrote this letter to his Lady ( Lady Macbeth) to inform her about what had happened. The text is organized into two parts. The first part is Macbeth’s letter and the second describes Lady Macbeth’s thoughts.

The letter has the function to inform Lady Macbeth what had happened, so she can draw her conclusions.

The first part describes the encounter between Macbeth and the witches. Macbeth tells his wife about the witches prediction and about his future.

The playwright underline that Lady Macbeth had the control over her husband.

We can understand that from the use of ‘you’. Also she was very important in Macbeth’s life, because she was ‘ my dearest partner of greatness’.

The second part describes Lady Macbeth’s thoughts.

She thinks about Macbeth’s personality and behaviour. She thinks that Macbeth is honest, loyal, ambitious and he could became king, but he isn’t violent enough to reach power. His desire is to become king but he hasn’t got all the features.

The last part of the letter is about Lady Macbeth’s thoughts.

From the words ‘ fate and metaphysical aids’, we understand that the nature decides about their future but Lady Macbeth wants her husband to become king. So we can understand the rest and the end of the tragedy.

Analysing the text we can realize that Lady Macbeth is very powerful on Macbeth’s and that she exerts psychological power on him.
