Tips for argumentative text production

 

Main form of argumentative text --> essay

Argumentative texts and essays propose/advance a thesis.

It is called argumentative because in order to support the thesis advanced the writer (an essayist, a journalist, a scholar and so on) needs to rely on argumentations: they should be either quality argumentations (based on information, concepts, feelings, ideas and so on) or quantitative (non linear, figures, percentage, histograms, pie cakes, statistics, data and comparative data)  + examples.

 

An argumentative text has got as far as structure:

a)    an introductory paragraph were the topic sentence works as an introduction

b)    the body of the essay is made up of a lot of paragraphs: each paragraph having a clear cut function that should be logically related to the previous and the following ones

c)    the last part is where the intelligent writer and reader generally find a conclusion

It relies heavily on connectors and conjunctions that should be chosen with reference to the function they have in the paragraphs
