Structural analysis of the article from “The Economist”

Reading this article, the reader can notice that it  is taken from the blog of the economist internet site: at the top of the page there is the title, “ Capitalism”, the date and the hour of publication. The reader can also understand that the main topic of the article will be business and management, in particular capitalism and its different definitions in the history(notice  the subtitle “An A-Z of business quotations). Since from the presentation of the article the reader can also understand that it won’t have a particular structure, because there are two different parts: an introduction, useful for the reader to understand the main topic and the following lines of the article, and a series of quotes about the most important economists and statesmen about capitalism. In particular, focusing on the quotes, the reader can understand that there is not a unique definition of capitalism, but it has got a lot of shades, it has a double nature: it can bring prosperity, but also poverty.  The language used has got a particular linguistic register, belonging to the economic register: there are a lot of words and expressions, such as “ruling class”, “enterprise”, “freemarket”. In the end, the use of the adjective “best” in the introduction of the article gives a personal judgement by the author, giving a personal vision about the best definition of capitalism: it was given by Joseph Schumpeter(1883 – 1950), that in 1942, in his book “Capitalism, Socialism and Democracy”, described Capitalism as an incessantly process of “Creative Destruction”
