The witches in the tragedy "Macbeth" have positive and negative points: the prophecy, Macbeth's letter and witchcraft. They represent people who tending to evil. Their speech recalls oral tradition at that time because it is written in verse to be reminded in the readers' mind. The letter is an excuse to keep the readers' attention focused on the difference between Macbeth's personality and his wife's one. On the other side the reader's attention is on the witchcraft because of the witches' prophecies. So this recalls his ambition to the power. Macbeth's personality is between his loyalty and his ambition. The witches are typical in the Medieval period and everyone knew about these evil creatures. A lot of people believe in supernatural, and Macbeth when the witches told his the prophecies, believed in them. The decision to introduce three witches in the tragedy "Macbeth" is supported by the common characters' personality and this was the easiest way to explain the concept.
