Postmodernism s a cultural movement of reaction towards the modernism. There isn’t a precise date for the beginning of this movement, it started more or les in 1950s and it reached it zenith in 1968 with the student protests, the independence of Algeria and the Russian invasion of Czechoslovakia.

The main point of Postmodernism is that there are not truth nothing in this world could be definitively proved and this thought is the opposite of the modern one indeed the modern thought researched the final truth; for Postmodernism there are only relative truth or rather that we can know only the things of which we could have experience. The most important philosopher of this movement is Derrida who is the founder of deconstruction that is a method of textual analysis  which by means of a series of highly controversial strategies seeks to reveal the inherent instability and indeterminacy of meaning as a metter of fact for postmodernists there is no link between the signifier and the signified.

Another aspect of Postmodernism in literature and entrainment is the discontinuity of the time line that doesn’t follow a linear order of the event and this is visible for example in J.Winterson’s novel.

Moreover Postmodernism prefers “ little narrative” then “grand narratives” because it dislikes the authoritarian connotation of “grand narrative”.
