Halloween is a festival of Celtic origin that dates back to two thousand years ago. It is celebrated on the 31st of October. Halloween originally celebrated the end of the year and the beginning of the new one on the 1st of November. When the summer finished, people were afraid of the new coming year, because they associated that period with death, with the end of crops, and as a result of life. It was the celebration of the beginning of the cold and dark winter. On Halloween, people believed that the spirits of dead people came back looking for a new body to live in. They were afraid to meet them and as a result the tried to scare the spirits wearing frightening customs and making big fires. Nowadays Halloween is celebrated all over the world, but the reasons, why we celebrated it are different. Usually teenagers celebrated it to have fun. People wear frightening customs and horrible masks, such as ghosts, skeletons, monsters and witches to scare other people or to do tricks. Then, in the evening, children, moving from house to house, ring the bells of neighbors’ houses asking “Trick or treat?” to collect some sweets, cakes or money. Another tradition is preparing the Halloween pumpkin. First you must empty the pumpkin and then, notched the eyes, the nose and the mouth, you can put a candle in it.
