Hamlet is a modern and Shakespearian play, which represents the suggestion of Shakespeare’s time and society. Hamlet becomes a myth. For Gothe hamlet face a heroic reality but he isn’t a hero because he don’t die.
During the history a lot of meanings was attributed to Hamlet: during the Romanticism it represents pain and aspiration to the infinite, for symbolists it becomes boredom and for the men of the twentieth century it becomes neurosis. The objectivity of the play is in its setting, in fact there is a close link with the contemporary. Besides Hamlet represent the transition from Middle ages to Renaissance. The Renaissance was characterized by Copernican view, the discovery of new worlds and the development of the science. All this creates instability in men. So it is going to born the puritan man (direct speech with God).
The spectator’s attention is always focused on Hamlet’s figure. He is characterized by a prodigious awareness. So his words are the hardness of truth opposed to fiction. The theme of action and paralysis going on during the all play (to be or not to be). The play is a big question, so it is an image of the modern man, who questions himself about everything that surrounds him.
Hamlet is the image of human being. He is the modern and dubious man, who question himself. So the doubt is a permanent condition for men.
