In recent months, the Ukraine is in the middle of a protest that is spreading throughout the state. The cause of these mass demonstrations is the foreign policy of President Viktor Janukovyč, who led Ukraine's pro- European positions on pro-Russian positions. Ukraine, in fact, was the next to join the EU, but the current president has refused to sign the treaty, thereby triggering the ire of the population, Russian stove oppressor and trusting in the European Union.
The Ukrainians, in fact, do not like the interference of the Russian Government on their policy, on the other hand, Russia, having lost all Soviet republics at the political level, does not want to lose them in economic terms.
Russian control on the current presidency is that Julia Timoshenko, the former Prime Minister, was officially arrested for abuse of office, but the assumptions that are based nicked the power of the Russian oligarchs, the owners of the gas.
The entrance to the Ukrainian union was brought forward by former President Yushchenko who saw the only hope of EU membership for Ukraine not to end up like Belarus, which is a "satellite" of Russia. However, with the next parliamentary and presidential elections, which saw the victory of the centrist party Partija Rehioniv of Janukovyč and the Ukrainian Communist Party, a coalition united only by the proximity of Russian interests. In fact, Ukraine coalitions are based not on the closeness of ideology, but rather on two fronts: the pro- Russian and pro-European.
The beginning of the protest was also due to a future danger: if Ukraine does not enter into the Russian orbit, there would be the danger of not joining the EU, since the EU enlargement could address the former Yugoslavia since the EU's intention is not to widen in an extreme way.
Thus, while in Europe arise and proliferate numerous parties and movements of the mold and populist nationalist who would like to return to national currencies or even leave the EU, Ukraine will struggle to enter. What for many is synonymous with oppression, for others it is synonymous with hope for Ukrainians is "better to be controlled by Germany from Russia”.
On the other hand, Russia has already warned that if Ukraine were to move towards the west, will implement an embargo on Ukrainian products, which would lead to a crisis for the nation's economy.
Another thing to note is that the protest is not transverse, but is divided into zones very clear: the city and the west of the country would like to join a United Europe, while the East is pro-Russian. A condition that, with the worsening of the uprising is becoming increasingly difficult.
